Here at Willowfield we manage the property to encourage wildlife and are so pleased at all the different species of wild birds we have seen here, 53 at the latest count! We hope our guests are able to see lots of them during their visit. This year, 2022, we are thrilled to have added two new birds to the list, Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a Little Egret 🙂 And following is a list to help identification 🙂
LITTLE EGRET
Another new bird to add at Willowfield, spotted on 17th September 2022, flying over the river at the cabin – a Little Egret! It is about half the size of a Grey Heron but is pure white. So happy 🙂
GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER
Very exciting – our latest new bird at Willowfield – first spotted on 19th June 2022 on the house bird feeding station. It was a juvenile, identifiable by it’s red head and pink under-tail. Hopefully the parents, nest and siblings are nearby and we will see more 🙂 a truly wonderful sight! UPDATE – there have been subsequent sightings to confirm there is a male and two juveniles 🙂
